Pair Rooku # 13 - Zoolander

Ok, ok, so these guys might not be dating (at all) but they are definitely BFFs - and begging for a walk-off in their Roppongi world of girls, hairspray, blow waves and animal print...

Note that the guy on the far left has a matching tie.  I wonder why he didn't go the whole zebra hog?  Not ridiculously good looking enough?

And apologies for the dark photo.  But I was off to the after-after party.

Parents Trying Their Luck

If you really are over the whole dating scene, why not get your parents to take care of it for you?  

Divorce Not an Option

Recently I was involved in a discussion about why Japanese women overlook their husband's indiscretions.  I always thought it was just part of the culture - which it still is in some ways - but these days it is mainly due to the fact that a divorce will actually leave the ex-wife with absolutely nothing.  Well she does get the children (it is very rare for custody to go the father - in fact it is very rare full stop for the father to challenge the custody agreement, or to even see the children once the divorce is finalized) but she does not get any alimony from her ex-husband or any other monetary support.

Typically, a Japanese woman will stop working once she is married in order to raise a family and look after the house.  Even is this woman has gone to university and was forging out a career, it is still the expectation that she will stop working.  So a divorced lady who has not been in the work force for many years with children to feed is not an attractive option.

It does not mean they like their husband going outside of the marriage but it means they will put up with it. 

 

Paying the Price

When my partner and I recently asked a group of young men out on the town in Tokyo about the constant stream of gaijin men in Japan who are dating Japanese women who would be considered out of their league back in their home country, this group replied that these men are probably paying for it.

Interestingly, one of them relayed a story very similar to this one, about a friend of theirs who was a "photographer" saying he was engaged to a "hot model", which ended in tears - his tears.  We all thought for a few minutes that this friend was the person my partner had spoken with but there were a few points of difference.  Apparently this lass was engaged to a number of different boys and was using things such as the language barrier to her full advantage, buying time in order to pick and choose.

Still it goes to show that Japanese women aren't as naive as a lot of foreign men presume them to be. And that maybe these gaijin guys need to learn to tighten their lips to avoid embarrassment until they are sure it is for real.

Pair Rooku # 12 - Heading for the Hills

The Pair Rooku concept has reached new heights - literally!  In Kamikochi, a tiny hiking community nestled high in the Northern Alps of Japan, couples take Pair Rooku very seriously.

 

Just because you are out bush does not mean you have to leave it behind as this couple strongly prove.

I wonder where you can buy just one of those outfits, let alone 2??

 

Survival Guide #7 - Tips for the Ladies

According to new found friends made over drinks last weekend, foreigner girls will have more chance of getting a boyfriend in Japan if they:

1. Get dirtier (see Roppongi Rippers for tips)
2. Accept the likelihood of men in Japan messing around and get on with it 
3. Be more submissive  

Well there you have it from the horses' mouths so to speak - from men in Japan who have dated both foreign and Japanese girls here and who are all currently dating...Japanese girls.

It was interesting to note - and refreshing to hear -  that none of these fellas had had any crazy experiences with former Japanese girlfriends.  Apart from a few loitering issues (one found a girl he had broken up with hiding in the bushes outside his apartment once),  these boys were relatively unscathed.

Got It Maid?

My partner and I found ourselves in a Maid Cafe in Akihabara recently.  The video cuts short as I was suddenly made aware cameras were not allowed!  Whoops.

It was very odd and we left feeling uneasy.  We realised halfway through it that it felt odd because it was these girls dressing up as maids which has sexual connotations in an environment that was very childlike.  For example, the furniture was very small and the cups were plastic and bright colours which made it very kindergarten like.  They were playing cartoons over a large screen and the interior was very much like a dollhouse.  Our maid was actually German and it was her third day on the job - she seemed uncomfortable to be serving other foreigners because we were obviously there due to curiosity more than anything.

Anyway, each to their own.  Maid Cafes are a huge business in Japan so they obviously make many people happy.

Roppongi Rippers

Drinking Mojitos in Roppongi on Saturday night turned up a few funny stories.  Talking to 3 guys from London, LA and Melbourne I asked them why some Japanese girls prefer dating gaijin men.

Duncan, the Brit of the group, did not miss a beat. "Cool apartment, cool car, bigger paycheck, bigger cock," he said very seriously.  This coming from the same guy whowhen asked why he preferred dating Japanese girls, answered "They are dirtier.  If I may give an example, a Japanese girl would want me to ejaculate on her face after 2 dates, whereas a London girl would probably make me wait for months 'til that happens."

I gotta say, I laughed my ass off.

Alan, the Melburnian, was a bit more diplomatic about the whole thing.  "Japanese girls are more submissive.  It is not that a Japanese girl would necessarily want you to ejaculate on her face, but she just wouldn't say no if you asked her."

I loved their honesty!

Pair Rooku #11 - Guilty as Charged.

I am really sorry there is no photographic evidence of this one BUT...

Last weekend my boyfriend and I went for a cruise through Ginza.  And when I say cruise, we actually walked a good portion of the way in to get some exercise, which is the how we became guilty of our own Pair Rooku.  

The sun was out and I started to get hot, so I took my jacket off to reveal my Adidas gear in all it's glory - a white top, over black shorts and of course I had my runners on. My boyfriend looked at me in shock horror.  It took me a second to get it, as I started back at him and realised he too was decked out in Adidas gear, head to toe, white top complete with black shorts - and his runners.

It was quite a turning point in out relationship.
